Mr. Kalisvaran Sellappan brings a unique blend of deep corporate insight and sharp legal acumen to Messrs Kohi & Associates, where he has been a partner since September 2020.
His journey into the legal profession is backed by a rich, 28-year career in the insurance industry. He first stepped into the field back in 1993 with Kurnia Insurance, eventually specializing deeply in Third-Party Bodily Injury Claims. Before transitioning into full-time legal practice, he served as the Head of Auto Liability and Motor Claims at Chubb Insurance Malaysia—a role that gave him an insider’s understanding of complex insurance frameworks and liability.
Driven by a lifelong ambition to look at the industry through a legal lens, Kalis pursued his legal qualifications, graduating from University Malaya with a Bachelor of Jurisprudence (Hons) and completing his Certificate of Legal Profession (CLP) with Honours in 2018.
He honed his litigation skills during his pupillage at Messrs Kenneth William & Associates, focusing directly on insurance claim disputes where his decades of industry experience gave him a natural edge. He was officially called to the Malaysian Bar on July 21, 2020.
Kalis also holds a Diploma in Business Administration, allowing him to approach every legal challenge not just as a lawyer, but as a practical, business-minded strategist. Known for his ambition and dedication, he has brought the firm to greater heights, playing a pivotal role in expanding its reputation and scope of practice.
Ms. Kohila Yanasekaran

For Ms. Kohila Yanasekaran, practicing law is far more than a profession—it is a calling. After a highly successful corporate path, she chose to follow her true passion for justice, founding Messrs Kohi & Associates to stand up for the poor, the oppressed, and those who need a dedicated voice in their corner.
Her extensive corporate chapter was built on a powerful academic foundation in economics, holding a Bachelor’s Degree from the National University of Malaysia (UKM) and a Master’s Degree from Putra University Malaysia (UPM).
Driven by this profound desire to stand up for the vulnerable, Kohila chose to redirect her strategic expertise to the courtroom. She graduated from University Malaya with a Bachelor of Jurisprudence (Hons) and achieved a stellar Second Class Upper Honours in her Certificate of Legal Profession (CLP) in 2016.
She honed her litigation instincts during her pupillage at Messrs Naicker & Associates, immersing herself in diverse and challenging cases that sharpened her courtroom skills. On September 7, 2018, she was officially called to the Malaysian Bar, marking the beginning of a legal career defined by purpose.
Known for her ambition and dedication, she has brought the firm to greater heights. Kohila does not just practice law; she uses it as a powerful instrument to champion the rights of the underprivileged, ensuring that true advocacy is always paired with a deeply empathetic heart.
